Course Description

It's highly recommended that students attend the Motorsports Basic Materials Program course (MTRS301) prior to enrolling in this course

Five day technical program limited to 18 attendees that is approximately 30% classroom and 70% hands-on.

The primary focus is on advanced motorsports materials and applications utilizing the Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) process including materials like chrome-moly, inconel, magnesium and titanium. In addition to these concepts, new technologies will be introduced, which include Waveform Control Technology® and Precision TIG® technology.

Purpose
To enhance your knowledge of current thinking in arc welding safety, processes, instruction, concepts, equipment and consumables, as well as your welding skills.

Course Content

  • Day 1 – Safety, GTAW (TIG) chrome-moly
  • Day 2 – GTAW (TIG) titanium
  • Day 3 – GTAW (TIG) inconel
  • Day 4 – GTAW (TIG) magnesium
  • Day 5 – New products, open lab and plant tour

Safety Equipment Needed for Class:

  • Ankle High, Steel-Toed, Safety Shoes
  • Safety Glasses w/ Side Shields
  • Welding Jacket
  • TIG Welding Gloves
  • Welding Cap
  • Welding Helmet
  • Welper Pliers
  • Channel Locks or Vise Grips
  • Stainless Wire Brush

34 Clock Hours: Lab - 29, Class - 5; CEUs - 3.4

Minimum enrollment numbers must be met in order for Weld School or Seminar & Workshop trainings to be held.  Trainings with less than the required minimum enrollment are subject to cancellation or rescheduling at the discretion of the WTTC Program Manager, Business Manager, or Manager of Technical Services. Classes will be cancelled no less than fourteen (14) working days before the scheduled start day of class and enrollees will be contacted.

Motorsports classes are held Monday thru Thursday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM & Friday 8:00 AM to Noon.  Please be prepared to begin welding on the first day. If you have not paid in full, the entire course fee is due prior to the class start date.

Required PPE and tools: welding hood, lenses, leather gloves, leather jacket, wire brush, pliers, safety glasses with side shields, long sleeve cotton shirts, long pants and steel-toed shoes must be worn at all times within the school. (Absolutely no shorts permitted).

**Without the proper attire, you will not be permitted on the weld floor (no exceptions)**
