PIPE201 - Pipe Training
Course Description
Safety in Welding
This course covers safety issues related to the welding and cutting of metal. Students learn the types and uses of personal protection equipment (PPE) and the techniques for handling and storing fuel and other gas cylinders. Students learn the safety and fire risks associated with electrical equipment and learn basic first-aid procedures.
This course introduces students to the fundamentals of API pipe welding, which includes 2G, proper fit-up, joint preparation, tacking and electrode selection in vertical down welding.
This course introduces 5G and reviews proper fit-up, joint preparation, tacking and electrode selection in vertical down welding.
Reviewing 5G, students are introduced to vertical down welding using cellulose electrode for root as well as vertical up hot, fill and cap with low hydrogen electrodes.
During this course students are introduced to troubleshooting and 6G, which includes DC- for less burnthrough and land vs. gap. In addition, AWS and API codes are explained as well as pipe welding joints positioned at a 45 degree angle using vertical down techniques.
This course specifically relates to butt joints and Brach "T" joints using cellulosic and low hydrogen electrodes in accordance with API 1104 code. Students will be working with schedule 40, 12 inch pipe.

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of ASME pipe welding which includes 2G, Proper fit-up, joint preparation, tacking & electrode selection in vertical up welding.
Students are introduced to 5G while reviewing proper fit-up, joint preparation, tacking and electrode selection in vertical up welding.
This course reviews 5G and introduces students to working with 6010 & 7018 electrodes in the 5G position.
This course covers troubleshooting and introduces 6G, which includes DC- for less burnthrough and land vs. gap. In addition, AWS & ASME codes are explained.
This course is designed to instruct welding personnel in welding of the root and hot pass done with the GTAW process. Fill & cap passes are done with low hydrogen stick electrodes or as the student’s ability dictates. GTAW all the way out (root, hot, fill & cap) with carbon steel or stainless steel filler metal on carbon steel pipe. The material used for this week will be 6-inch schedule 40, schedule 80 pipes & 2 inch extra strong pipe.
180 Clock Hours: Lab - 108, Lecture - 72; CEUs - 18
Please Note: Students must pass welding test to receive diploma.
Ankle high leather safety steel-toed boots are mandatory for this class.
Pancake style Hoods or Helmets are not permitted in the welding school.
